I brought this to go on my bed as I'm pregnant and don't want to ruin my mattress if my waters break. I can't attest to its waterproofness yet. I washed it in cold water and air dryed before using and it was fine, no issues with the backing sticking to itself or any shrinkage.
One thing to be aware of is sleeping on this thing makes you hot, my husband and I both commented that we feel hot and sweaty sleeping on this compared to our usual cotton (non-waterproof) protector.
Functional, but...
You really get what you pay for. The waterproof backing, even on the lowest dryer setting, will stick to itself and become permanent if you do not rip it apart right away after the dry cycle. We aren't using it so much for the waterproofness as we are for just being another layer between us and the mattress. The terry cloth-like top is a plus because the sheets stay in play. I have had other mattress protectors that were too slick or baggy. This one works well with our mattress of regular thickness plus a two-inch foam topper. I would buy it again, just be careful about drying it.
